As Chair of the Awards Steering Group, I am immensely proud of this year’s Landscape Institute Awards. They not only reflect the highest standards of practice within our industry but also spotlight the profound ways in which landscape professionals are shaping better outcomes for our communities, environments, and the wider natural world.
To ensure the highest level of integrity and rigour in the judging process, a selection of highly qualified and specialised Judges of various disciplines and working environments were selected to ensure that the awards submitted were assessed to the highest standards. All awards were evaluated against 4 core Judging Criteria:
Design: Projects were evaluated for their design excellence, considering both form and function. Judges looked for creative and innovative solutions that demonstrated a clear design intent, responded sensitively to context, and enhanced the experience of users. Strong design integrates aesthetic appeal with practical functionality, creating places that are not only beautiful but also purposeful and enduring.
Sustainability: Sustainability was a key measure of success, with entries expected to show a commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term resilience. Judges assessed how projects addressed climate challenges, improved biodiversity, used resources efficiently, and reduced environmental impact. Exceptional entries embedded sustainability from concept through to delivery, setting a benchmark for responsible practice in landscape architecture.
Value: Judges considered how each project delivered value across social, economic, and environmental dimensions. This included evidence of positive outcomes for clients, stakeholders, and the wider community. Value was recognised not only in terms of cost-effectiveness, but also in the creation of inclusive, accessible, and equitable spaces that enrich people’s lives and contribute meaningfully to place-making.
Professionalism: The highest standards of professional conduct and delivery were expected across all entries. Judges looked for evidence of technical competence, project management, collaboration, and adherence to industry codes and guidance. Projects that demonstrated robust methodologies, clear communication, and a commitment to ethical practice were held in particularly high regard. In addition to these judging criteria, some award categories also included additional criteria relevant to their specific focus. We are particularly proud of the diversity and quality of entries submitted this year. They reflect real-world impact and align with the Landscape Institute’s core themes, highlighting projects that bring lasting benefits to people, place, and nature, and demonstrate a shared commitment to a more resilient and sustainable future.
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 14 November in London. We encourage early booking to avoid disappointment, as this promises to be a truly inspiring and memorable event.
We look forward to celebrating with you.
