Becoming a member of the Landscape Institute connects you to a vibrant professional community dedicated to shaping sustainable, beautiful, and resilient places. Whether you’re a student, emerging professional, experienced practitioner, or leader in the field, the LI membership offers recognition of your expertise, access to valuable resources, and opportunities for career development. You’ll benefit from networking events, CPD programmes, mentoring, and the latest industry insights.
Membership demonstrates your commitment to professional standards, ethics, and environmental stewardship, enhancing your credibility with clients and employers. By joining, you contribute to advancing the landscape profession and influencing the future of the places where we live, work, and play.
These membership grades provide you with a framework for your professional development and are recognised by employers, customers, and peers as a mark of quality. In addition, they give you a vote in LI elections and allow you to nominate members to council and committee positions.
Associate membership is open to those who have completed their initial professional education. Being a Associate member enables you to join the Pathway to Chartership, the route to achieving full Chartered (CMLI) status.
Chartered membership (CMLI) is the mark of quality and excellence for the profession. It communicates to employers and clients that they can expect the highest standards of professional knowledge and quality of service.
Fellow membership (FLI) is the highest form of Chartered membership and is awarded to innovators, leaders and ambassadors, in recognition that they have made a special contribution to the development and promotion of the landscape profession.
Technician Membership (TMLI) is a professional grade of membership for those in the landscape profession who have developed technical and specialist skills.
Academic membership (AMLI) is open to those involved in teaching or research in landscape, environment or related areas.
These membership grades give you a range of benefits and provide you with access to a community of fellow professionals working within the sector.
Student Membership is open to all students on LI-accredited courses and students studying related built environment and natural environment courses.
Affiliate membership is open to anyone who has an interest in landscape and the environment, or who is working in a landscape-related profession.
Retired membership allows those formerly practicing as a CMLI or an FLI to continue being part of our network of landscape professionals and stay up-to-date on current industry issues and ideas.
