In our response to the revisions of the National Policy Statements for Energy we highlight several key messages for Government:
- Recognition of Landscape’s Role: The landscape profession should be central to energy infrastructure planning. Well-informed siting and design are cost-effective ways to contribute to climate resilience and energy efficiency.
- Landscape-Led Approach: We call for a landscape-led approach to planning reform, which would balance competing objectives and deliver benefits for both people and nature.
- Biodiversity and Green Infrastructure: We support the inclusion of Biodiversity Net Gain and the expansion of green infrastructure to enhance ecosystem services and climate resilience.
- Qualified Professionals: Involving qualified landscape professionals throughout a project’s lifecycle, from strategic planning to restoration, will lead to more efficient and effective output delivery.
- Clear Methodologies: We call for clear methodologies and thresholds for managing Cumulative Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (CLVIA) and decommissioning plans.
- Community Engagement: We advocate early and meaningful community engagement and high-quality visualizations to improve public understanding of landscape impacts.
