Role
The Council is the guardian of the spirit of the Landscape Institute’s Charter and of its long-term objectives. As prescribed by the Royal Charter, By-Laws and Regulations its main responsibilities are:
- Ensuring accountability
- Holding the Board to account
- Shaping Policy
- Inspiring Support

The LI Working Together Policy supports members, staff, contractors, LI bodies including Board and Council working together in a professional and supportive way.
Structure
The Council’s role is to represent members and to help set the LI’s strategic objectives, meeting 3 times a year. There are up to 30 Council members:
- 5 Honorary Officers
- 7 directly elected Corporate members
- 2 directly elected Associate members
- 1 directly elected Student member
- 12 Branch representatives
- 3 Standing Committee representatives (Education & Careers, Knowledge & Practice, Policy & Public Affairs)
