Associate Membership

Who is Associate Membership for?

Associate membership is for those that have started out on their journey in the industry, having graduated from an LI-accredited course or have sufficient academic or work experience. As an associate member, you can join the Pathway to Chartership and work towards achieving full Chartered status (CMLI).

Being an Associate member is a public and professional commitment to continuing your professional development, keeping you at the top of your profession.

Choose your route to membership

There are two routes to becoming an associate member. Check the Requirements Document to see the best route for you.

UK LI-Accredited course route

If you’ve graduated from a UK LI-accredited course, you can apply anytime to become an Associate member.

Non-accredited route

If you hold a qualification from a non-accredited course you can still apply through our Membership Admissions Panel. The LI also accepts these IFLA Europe recognised courses.

Benefits of membership

Get free access to Campus (with discounts on Premium content), our vast library of high-quality, on-demand CPD videos. Campus includes webinars and masterclasses, as well as sessions from our CPD days, conferences and other events.

As members you’re part of a vast network of landscape professionals in a breadth of roles across the natural and built environment. You’ll be listed on our member directory where you can be discovered by prospective customers, employers and peers.

If you’re part of a Registered Practice, you’ll also be able to list any projects you’ve been involved in in our case studies directory.

As a member, you can join your local branch, attend their events, and get updates on activities in other branches. You can also vote for your local branch committee and nominate yourself as branch chair, secretary, or as a general committee member. Find out what’s going on in your area.

Keeping up to date with your own professional development and staying ahead with current practice is important for all professionals in the landscape sector. That’s why all LI members get free or discounted access to all of our live  online and in-person events. We hold regular webinars and masterclasses, delivered by industry experts, to keep you informed about technical, policy and business matters.

We offer discounted rates on insurance services, free legal advice and a pension scheme. If you work for a Registered Practice then let them know that they can receive a free initial consultation for bespoke insurance, tailored to the industry, through LI Insurance Services.

We also offer discounts on JCLI contracts.

You’ll receive a print copy of the quarterly Landscape Journal, which provides in-depth insight into the issues at the forefront of the landscape industry and the innovative solutions the industry has taken to tackle these.

As an associate member, you have a voice in how your Institute is run through voting at annual general meetings, extraordinary general meetings, and LI Elections, as well as standing for elected positions, and committee memberships.

The membership year runs from 1st June through to the 31st May.
